30 Day Challenge {Day 9} and Pintrest Day!

Hi everyoneee!!! I am SO sorry I have been a little touch and go this week....{it's an excuse} but I have a show next weekend and ya'll....I haven't even started packing....I leave Monday at like 5am! AHK! Okay so now that I've gotten that out and let you know I miiiight be a little more MIA until the 26th. NOW to the important stuff! Day number 9 on the 30 Day challenge....Something you're afraid of.

This is completely a no brainer for me. I am a religious person and know in my heart of hearts that The Lord will provide and my life will be His will. If something goes wrong I know it is because He made it so...keeping me from something even more harmful or hurtful. So with that being said...I am completely and I mean completely afraid of death....

For me...for my family..for my friends. I do not handle death well, I know it is His will and he takes the best of the best but I just don't deal well with death on any level. {I lost my dog...a 5lb toy pomeranian named Noli a little over a year ago and I still cry sometimes about losing her...and she was a dog...}

So now that that is out of the way...onto something much more cheerful and exciting! Ya'll remember when I told you we were having a Pintrest Party? Well we had it and it.was.ah.maz.ing! No lie. Everyone should have one. And what would this blog be without some awesome pictures?? :)

Here's what we made:
{Sorry ya'll...I forgot to take pics of everything!}
Blood Orange Mimosas

{Made by me! HD}

{This one made by me but my friend Brittany made her own version and it rocked!}

{My other friend Brittany made these heavenly goodies!}

&
{I would like to say this was a joint effort between all of us, BW cut the pickles, SB and I made the egg rolls and BS was our official taste tester! She was busy makin' this awesome recipe that she's had for ages}

{This was SB's project and eventhough she got really frustrated with it taking so long she really stuck it out and it turned out GREAT!}

 If you have questions about how any of the projects listed here were made...just comment! And I'll do a DIY sesh sometime this week or next!

Until next time....Happy DIY'ing!

Guest Blogger - Artsee Fartsee and the DIY Ring Pillow

 I've known the girl behind DIY Davis Style since we were on the cheerleading team in college. She was fabulous then and she is fabulous now. I adore her blog and am so excited to make it to "Guest Blogger Saturday".

I got engaged Christmas Eve and have been spending most of my free time planning for our wedding. We're keeping it simple, but if you've ever planned a wedding you know that even then it can make you crazy. But, thanks to a lot of patience from all parties involved, I'm almost done with all of the major details. I'd rather work hard and get it all done now so I can spend the next few months just enjoying being engaged.
Since most of the big things are out of the way I am working on some of the smaller details and I've got something I want to talk about. I'm not trying to sound like a Stingy Sally, but it seems like if you put the word "Wedding" in front of anything it mysteriously quadruples in price. I was browsing Etsy and found that most of the ring bearer pillows were in the $90-$120 range. And I've got one thing to say, "PFFFFFFFF. THESE PEOPLE ARE TRIPPING, YOU HEAR ME?!?" Okay, thank you for letting me get that off my chest, I feel much better. Moving forward and being proactive, I made an exact duplicate of a pillow that was going for over $130. And I made it for $20.You'll have to take my word that it looks much better in person. I lost the charger to my good camera and was at a loss for good lighting. I had every intention of making the matching flower girl basket at the same time, but I got distracted by The Bachelor and time escaped me. We've all been there, right? Maybe next week.

If you want to make your own, here's the details:

Before you begin:  Go to the Hobby Lobby website and get your 40% off coupon. They always have this and it will save you a bundle. I got my pillow I embellished there for about $15. Also, this week is 50% off all wedding items, so stock up.

1. What you'll need:
     1/2 of polyester/satin that matches your wedding colors (if you're like me and have changed your colors   1,889,342 times you might want to hold off on this until you're absolute certain you're not going to change again)
     Tacky Glue or Liquid Stitch
     Scissors
     Jewel button
     1/4" thick ribbon
     2" Ribbon in secondary wedding color (optional)
     Lighter or Candle

2. Cut circles from fabric in graduated sizes. I used 2", 3", 4", 5" and 6". You can use more or less depending on how dramatic you want your flower. Cut 8 slits in each circle equal lengths apart. Don't cut farther than about 1/3 of the way in.

3. Hold your circles (one at a time) with the slits about 2 inches above the flame from your candle. Focus on one petal at a time. They will curl in towards the flame. This takes practice. Have extra material on hand.

4. Use the tacky glue to glue each layer together (if you're an elitist you can sew them together, but I'm all about keeping it real so I'm suggesting glue). String the thin ribbon through the back of your button, this is where your rings will go. Glue the button to the flower and the flower to the pillow.  And Voila. You just saved yourself a Benjamin.

DIY Burlap Wreath

Okay you guys...for those of you who are my friend on Facebook there are a few of us getting together on Saturday for a new trend..."PINTREST DAY". Yep, you read that right...PINTREST. We're all picking a project or two that we have been dying to try and we're going to have a full day of it. We're even going to include a few recipes and drinks from Pintrest that we have also wanted to try! Guys...I.CAN.NOT.WAIT!!! I don't think I can express how excited I am. I LOVE crafts and am excited that I don't have to do them alone!
So here's where we took a wrong turn...a friend from work is coming to this shindig on Saturday and we thought it would be a great idea to just pop by Michaels and just see if there was anything that really caught our eye for our projects. See, I really had no idea what my project was going to be and I thought that I would just ride the Michaels vibe and it would just...*poof*  come to me...just like that. Well that's exactly what happened and before I knew it I had everything that I would need for said project in my little hand basket and I was READY. I think that might be a massive slight understatement.
Which brings us here....8:35 pm and a COMPLETED craft...well crap now what am I going to make on Saturday???

{Jute Wreath}
Estimated time...about 30 minutes!

Here's what I spent....

$28.34 and I had to buy glue sticks and a gift bag!

Here's what you'll need:

1 Green foam floral wreath
Assorted flowers
Hot glue gun & sticks
A brown paper bag {or you can use ribbon of your choosing}
And a roll of jute {which is VERY similar to hemp and burlap}.

 Step 1
Use that junk mail...Heat up your hot glue gun and be sure to set something under it...like junk mail. Once your gun is heated you will want to carefully dab hot glue onto one end of the jute. Once there is glue on there DO NOT press down directly on top or you will burn the dickens out of your fingers! {Yes I said dickens...I can't curse if I wanna keep my ads...drat}

Said junk mail protecting my 1800's re salvaged table...
You will want to DAB with your index finger so that the jute affixes itself to the wreath. I was going to say "like so" until I realized I didn't have a picture...UGH bear with me guys...I'm still learning!So once you have the end stuck really well you want to wrap it with the jute in a diagonal direction. This way your jute doesn't pucker or give you a lumpy look.
Hot glue and dab..don't press like this picture!
I wraped my twice, if you buy the same jute from Michaels I did {for $4.99} it is plenty to do two layers. By doing two layers you are covering the green completely, which really is the point right? If you wanted a green wreath you wouldn't be wrapping it with brown jute...
When you get to the other end you'll want to put more hot glue on and dab again. NOT PRESSING {I obviously keep reiterating this because well even though I knew this little precious adorable detail...I still did it...5 times} Yes I counted...the blisters.

When the wreath is wrapped you will want to turn your attention to your flowers which brings us to
Step 2...
You can use whatever spray paint you want...
Flower heads...off!
Arrange your flowers. I bought everything from the $1.99 stacks...well thank you spring flower sale! I just pulled the flower heads off and if you know me...I usually just plan an idea of how I want it done...I wing it Planning 0, Winging It 1. I am pretty pleased with the way it came out. I decided I wanted my white flowers to look a little like anemones {like my most favorite flower in the entire world} so I spray painted the middles black for effect. {read: you don't have to do this part if you don't care what color the centers are}
Arrange them how you want and use stick pins and hot glue to secure them into place. I added a few leaves off the stems to give a little more color. I also bought some small hydrangea type flowers that I tucked around the large buds for more texture. See these two pictures? The greenery and the hydrangea flowers make a HUGE difference. I also added two folded pieces of burlap that I had laying around for a little something extra...

*Helpful hint...when you are hot gluing DO NOT hold the gun over your leg....the glue is liquidy and will DRIP...{read: ouch}

When you're done with your arrangement You will want to secure your loop on the back whether it is with ribbon or with a gift bag handle like I chose to use. I wanted to be sure to have something that would give that same rough feel as the jute so the cord worked like a charm. Looking back on this I probably should have affixed this before all the flowers on the front but it wasn't an issue. You will want to hot glue it to the back then use 2-3 stick pins to hold it in place...better to be safe than sorry!

And there you have it! Jute wreath with silk flowers...and it only took me 30-45 minutes, $29 and a few bandaids!

If you try this project let me know how it turns out! I know I need a better camera :\ add it to the list!!!

HAVE FUN YA'LL!!

I've Been Tagged...

Sort of like framed...but way better!! Thanks to A 20 Something Muddle...this is my VERY FIRST experience is tagging so wish me luck but no broken limbs please. Here goes... {For those of you who are virginal like me in tagging here's how it works...you make up 11 questions you would like to know about your new blogging friends or your old friends. Then you paste them onto your blog (tagging the person who tagged you) and tagging new people! It's a great way to learn about your new friends or learn more about people you thought you already knew pretty well!}

My Questions:
1. How did you come to live in your current city? Everyone has a story...
2. Have you ever broken a bone or gotten hurt with an ultra embarrassing moment?
3. Finish this sentence... "Don't act like you never...." implying that you may not be the only one to have done said action.
4. If you have siblings, what is the most trouble you ever got into together? If you're an only child what is the most trouble you ever got into alone?
5. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
6. What is your dream job?
7. What would you tell the 16 year old you?
8. What is your fondest memory?
9. Your biggest pet peeve?
10. If you had no plans for Saturday...what would your DREAM day off include?
11. Would you rather have a manicure, pedicure, massage or facial? {You can only choose one!}

A 20 Something's Muddle Questions:
1. What one thing in your life do you feel most proud of?
I really think that studying abroad is something I am really proud of. It was a huge turning point in my life. I traveled Europe essentially alone. When the class was in Paris I faked illness and went out on my own pretty much every day. Shopping, exploring the Louvre and even finding amazing restaurants with the nicest baristas around. Sharing my adventures with them and creating relationships-some of which I still have today.
2. If you could have 3 wishes, what would the by and why?
I really think I would just wish really hard for 2 things...the first that my family could live forever...I am REALLY bad with death and it scares me to know that my mommy and daddy will not be around forever to share our ups and downs with. And the second is Security..financially definitely. Not having to worry about bills and if and when can we afford to start having children...it is a HUGE stress for me just like I am sure it is for everyone else!!
3. What is your happiest childhood memory?
It is so hard to just choose one....but every summer we went to the Florida Keys as a family. We would eat fish every day and Mom and Dad would let us order virgin daqueries. I fished off the back of my dad's boat with nothing but line and a hook {catching bait for the adults to use} and I can remember this one time like it was yesterday...I was bringing in the needlenose fish {we cut them and used them for bait} so fast that my Dad said "Woah you are catching them faster than we can use them" and I just remember having the biggest pride in myself for making my dad so proud. Looking back all I did was catch a lot of fish but it was really exciting to me to know that I was doing a good job....obviously my over-achieving started early in life haha...
4. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Possibly being my own boss in a wedding planning company where I can be a stay at home mommy!
5. What are the top 10 things in your bucket list?
oh gosh. Scuba in Australia on the Great Barrier Reef, Backpack across Africa, Shop in Toronto, Go to another Fashion Week...New York or Paris, Have kids by the time I'm 30 {tick tock right?} Own a pair of CL or Monolos, and uhm....that's all I can think of :)
6. What are your feel good songs that make you smile when you're sad?
I'm walkin' on Sunshine and anything from the 90s....Slide, Scar Tissue, Closing Time....i <3 the 90s!!
7. If you had to choose 3 things that make you happy, what would you choose and why?
Well obviously I would choose my husband because he is my best friend and I am positive I would be lost without him, 2nd would have to be my family...See #2 above... and third would be my home...I love that I have a safe place to stay at night and I love how fulfilling it has been for me to decorate it. All I need is a roof over my head and family in my life...<3. (And of course my dogs....but that would be lumped in with Josh because they're our "children"
8. What is your tipple of choice?
Uhm...what is a tipple?
9. What would your perfect holiday or travel experience be? Describe it.
Oh man I could go crazy on this one but it would probably involve #1 on my bucket list. Travel to Australia and dive every day straight for a week on the Great Barrier Reef, then spend another week doing nothing but sight seeing and laying on the beach with a fruity umbrella drink {and of course the hubs}
10. What would your dream career be?
This is so easy because I am living it. I got a job before I even graduated college in exactly the field I wanted to be in. I am the Assistant Show Manager for a few of our consumer and trade shows and I absolutely love the quick paced, high stress environment. I thrive under stress and don't think I'm a freak but I absolutely LOVE the stress of my job. I do much better when I am busy and not bored and like some of you others out there if I am not stretched so thin I can't sleep then I am not happy, my mommy thinks it's genetic..a "Reichgott" thing but...I just don't do bored well.  I think being a Show Manager would be my ideal ideal dream job...but mine is pretty darn good too :)
11. What advice would you give your teenage self?

Follow your gut...if you think a decision is the bad one but you still feel pulled to do it....then DO IT! Those experiences you will go through will give you the patience, wisdom and drive to accomplish anything and EVERYTHING that you set your mind to do. You will thrive and reach your goals...trust no advice and learn for yourself!!

30 Day Challenge {Day 8}

Day 8: A place you've traveled to...
I feel like it's really hard to just pick on place...so I'm going to pick one CONTINENT..... I studied abroad my "sophmore" year of college {at least I think it was still technically my sophmore year since I took a few months off then went to art school....see Fact #6} I lived in Milano, Italy on Un Dice Via Lampedeusa {that is the physical address} in a hotel of sorts that us students used as apartments. The elevators hardly ever worked and the WIFI was incorrigible, I put a hole in my ceiling cracking open my very first bottle of champagne and we ate soggy french fries and pizzas the size of 4 of our heads. So here...my blogging friends...is a brief snapshot of each "city" I hung my hat in for however brief a time...
E come potrei andare in tutti questi posti meravigliosi e non prendere un po 'd'italiano ... eh? {And how could I go to all of these wonderful places and not learn to speak a little Italian...eh?}
Florence....Firenze, Italia
Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti Milano...the Art Academy in Milan where I took classes...we called it NABA

The Duomo or Church in the middle of Milan
Milan Fashion Week...Fall 2007
Athens, Greece
Paris, France
 Ou peut-être même un peu de Français..... {Or even perhaps pick up a bit of French}
Rome, Italy
Until next time....au revoir....ciao...seee yaaaaa
