Post-Valentine's Day Post

That is quite catchy no? So I know I have been a liiiiittle MIA for the past week or so, I was out of town for work (I am an event planner and we had a show going on in Raleigh, NC). Needless to say it was lots of early mornings (around 5am) and going to bed early (around 9pm) which equals a very exhausted Haleigh. Not to mention when I got back from my show at 10:45 on a Friday night my In-laws (Mom, Dad, Aunt, Younger Brother and Girlfriend) had dropped in for a weekend visit.

Now that I have regained my sanity I thought I would talk about Valentine's Day {Just like the other 5billion people in the Facebook/Blog world}. I always buy J a present and he always sayyysss he loves it but I thought back to our first year of dating and how much he loved the things I hand made. SO...that's what I did! I got on the flytrap that is called Pintrest and wasted spent an entire day a few hours looking at all the different cute craft-y ideas that didn't look too hard or time consuming since I just got off one show and have another one in like...30 days. I decided on a box with 1 year's worth of pre-planned dates {didn't do the pre-paid because the rates are ever changing down here...plus...that would have been expensive} in addition to a little booklet of 52 reasons why I love him, on a deck of playing cards.

Here's what you'll need...
The rafia covered floral wire. Tied in loose knots.
First of all, thinking up 52 reasons why you love your spouse should be easy....WRONG. I didn't want to do the typical "your hair" "your kisses" {I might vomit} So I went with things like "the way you smell before you put on your cologne...it's been the same since high school" and "the look on your face when you are trying to come up with a witty comeback". I found a blog online that gave you brief directions on "how to" but if you know me {like most of you do} I would rather figure it out on my own...Directions? No...I call them DESTRUCTIONS {because they do more harm than good}. Moving on....I got out my fancy little one hole punch in the shape of a heart {don't ask me why I have one of those} and thought that I was genius. Again...WRONG. I could only punch 2 cards at a time and I had to line them up so that they would all be in the same place. I should have used a paper hole punch...it would have been much easier on me...who cares if the holes are shaped like little hearts..RIGHT??? So I punched all the holes, then I used floral wire covered in rafia to tie the stack of cards together. I left quite a bit of room so that I could actually flip the cards open and write all the way around them.

Make sure you write something on the front
Once I had them tied together I went through my list of 52 reasons and picked longer ones which I wrote on the 2, 3 and 4 cards {since there was more room on those cards} and I used the shorter more typical things {your baby blues etc.} on the face cards.  So minus the time consuming-hand cramping hole punching and the monotonous "I Love You" that I wrote on each card PLUS the 52 reasons...labor of love? The best part about this gift? Watching J go through and read each card. When he got to the card that said "Your Baby Blues" he got this confused look on his face....he says "Baby Blues...I thought you were the one with baby blues" and I had to squeeze my legs together so I wouldn't pee myself before I told him the card was referring to his eyes...and it's called baby FEVER not blues...

{11 Pre-Planned Dates}
The next part of the project was pretty easy, but not as instantly gratifying. I went online and researched our area. Even though I have lived in the Charlotte area for over 4 years there is still so much here that I haven't done. I used the self adhesive envelopes in pastel colors (purchased at Wal-Mart) for around $4, die cut paper squares in shades of pink, a calligraphy pen that I had as well as a corner cutter from scrapbooking.  I punched a little heart in each corner and wrote the month starting in March on the front of the envelope. Then I went through and used the corner cutter on each of the die-cut papers just in the two upper corners writing the month inbetween. Once the card had the month listed, I wrote what the date was and included addition information. Web page print outs with pricing/date information {one date is to go kayaking on Mountain Island Lake which is the lake our house is near} Other dates include a picnic and hiking with the pups and even a slumber party complete with sheet tents. The operative thing here is to sit down at the beginning of each month and decide on which day we want to do our date {weather permitting}. Needless to say even though I practically loath Valentine's Day {why should you need just one day to tell the person that you love...that you love them!}I had a BLAST doing these projects. It really got me in the mood to be all mushy with my husband again. PLUS is gives me something to really look forward to each month since everything is already practically planned!

And to think...I made him these beautifully amazing things...and all I got was this lousy ring ;)

 Until next time....

  1. That's pretty cool stuff, Haleigh. This year I wrote a song for my wife and recorded it. It's the sappiest love song ever, and it completely embarrassed me to do it, but what the heck! You only live once. :)
